A Note From Ruth Academic Boardmember Bill Duncan

With more than 95 percent of precincts reporting, Prop 8 is leading 52-48. I see that the LA Times headlines is "Gay Marriage Ban Approved by Voters."

Thus, I think we can confidently assume that Prop 8 has been approved. With Arizon and Florida approving, we are at 30 states with marriage amendments.

You may already have seen these but just in case, I’m passing along the results as of 11:00 p.m. on November 4. These reflect more than 90% of precincts reporting in these states and have been pretty consistent for some time so I think they are a reliable indicator that both state amendments have been successful. The news media are reporting both amendments as wins!

Arizona (Prop 102): YES 56% to 44%

Florida (Amdt 2): YES 62% to 38%

Proposition 8 is ahead (53-47) in California with about 25% of precincts reporting. There’s reason to be optimistic but it looks to be close.

Best,

Bill Duncan
